“Mile sur mera tumhara..”, the song chants like a anthem in every patriotic souls.
India celebrated its 60th Republic day with awaited processions in Delhi that were mostly engulfed with sudden dense fog and mist. This is one of the events that raise ecstatic feeling of being part of this country…the country with mighty nuclear powers, rich culture etc etc. This country has stiff history of survival despite being adjacent to rivals.
Well I am not thinking particularly about the republic day or the rich history of India, rather I am miffed about an initiative carried out by India’s leading daily news agency and its counterpart in Pakistan. ‘Aman ki asha’, as popularly advertised by both the agencies in respective countries. This is not the first time that such an initiative had been carried out in both countries. Earlier we had Samjhauta express, Indo-Pak bus link, friendly matches etc etc. I find it very hard to digest the fact that a particular section of the society still believes in such principles. It would be a nice idea to get accompanied by our neighbors in friendly gesture, but the question is when, and is it really possible in such adverse conditions. On one hand we have series of attacks on our integrity and on other hand we expect “aman ki asha” from same country. And on what grounds we do expect the peace from both nations; it’s only culture. We talk about friendship; the only thing that comes to our mind is culture, which is common between two nations. Can we resolve the long lasted issues through culture sharing?
Let’s think about numerous soldiers and civilians those had been affected directly or indirectly because of this unsympathetic relation. Will they feel respite through culture bridging? Can culture answer their unstoppable questions about their lives and the dear ones they have lost? Moreover how many people from this country are inclined to culture or even interested in culture bridging? There have been many such attempts at arousing feeling of hope in millions of hearts at the same time, but most of them had died down due to short life or occurrences of unfavorable responses from neighbors. How do we expect “aman” when J&K was facing stiff firing across border during R-Day parade in Delhi..!!!
These questions are really meaningless and waste of time, as numerous people like me had already raised such concerns before. Anyways, still, we need to be reminded again and again…
